The Old Man on the Beach

in the rising sun
you’ll find him there …
a solitary figure
alone in his chair …

behind that old
and haggard look …
the life he’s lived
could fill a book …

but no one sees
beyond those lines …
carved in his face
from the ages and times …

no one sees past the cover
no one looks inside …
no one flips the pages
no one reads the lines …

his youthful looks
no longer there …
his body wrinkled
head full of gray hair …

his soul still filled
with rhythm …
his mind still filled
with rhyme …

his heart still filled
with passion …
his life still filled
with time …

but no one sees past the cover
no one looks inside …
no one flips the pages
no one reads the lines …

he’s just
the old man on the beach.
